This has caused some confusion for many people. In some cases they have tried to turn the tables and say that FlightGear is ripping them off and pirating their work. VirtualPilot3D goes to extreme measures to hide the fact that they are simply copying an old version of FlightGear and reselling it under a different name, unsupported by the FlightGear community and without any visible value added to the outdated version of FlightGear.
